US INVOLVEMENT IN WWII IN THE PACIFIC
In 1941, Japan bombed Pearl Harbor. This was the beginning of US involvement in WWII with the US declaring war against Japan, and the continued conflicts and aggressions of Japan eventually led to the US dropping of the atomic bomb on Japan.
The US engaged in conflicts against Japan in the Pacific for the next 3 and half years.
Some of the major battles in the Pacific included the Battle of Guadalcanal, the Battle for Saipan,
Battles in the Philippine Seas, Iwo Jima, and the Battle at Okinawa.
August 6th 1945, the US bombed Hiroshima with a nuclear weapon called "Little Boy." This was the first use of a nuclear weapon. President Truman hoped Japan would surrender but they didn't.
Three days later on August 9th 1945, the US bombed Nagasaki with the bomb called "Fat Man" and this ended the war with Japan surrendering.
